STATE OF THE UNIT
Bob’s goals for 2008 were to centralize
and make uniform all unit events; increase membership through flyers
and outreach; establish an education committee to attract new
players; subsidize qualifiers and special games at clubs; give back
to the members in the form of free games and milestone parties.
Gee Gee moved and Jerry seconded the
motion that Ellie be president for 2009. The motion was carried
unanimously. Shirley, Don, and Gee Gee were welcomed to the board.
Gee Gee volunteered to be vice president, Addie secretary, and Jerry
treasurer.
The December 11 minutes were accepted as
amended
.
We will add Bernadine Lacy’s nomination as Goodwill Member of the
Year to the Web site.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Kemble Yates, in absentia, reported that
the unit’s current balance is $13,220.48.
2009 SCHEDULE
The Spring Fling will be March 14-15 at
the Masonic Lodge. Jerry will get the sanction number and Gee Gee
will create a flyer. Ellie will chair the event.
The Spring Sectional will be April 23-26
at the Masonic Lodge, with Steve Kaessner directing. Friday and
Saturday games will be at 12 and 6. Gee Gee will chair and I will be
hospitality chair. Flights B and C for the North American Pairs
district finals will be held concurrently; the unit will receive $15
per table for NAP hospitality.
The Fall Sectional will be September 10-13
at the Masonic Lodge. Becca will chair.
The Fall Memorial will be October 24-25.
We need to confirm with Bernadine whether the Masonic Lodge is
available. Shirley will chair. Bob will do the memorial plaque.
Jerry will chair the milestone party once
a quarter.
Bob has an org chart for events. Ellie
gave me a rundown on hospitality for sectionals, and I will ask the
Grants Pass unit to borrow their binder and copy relevant
information on sectionals. Also, a sectional checklist was prepared
during Bill Reeves’ presidency and passed on to Tom Bergstrom. I
will track that down.
OLD BUSINESS
Jerry has distributed flyers for his
EasyBridge! class. Bob has 18 students, eight of them new to the
area or new to duplicate, in his class.
Don will take over Audrey Green’s
returning to bridge phone calls as discussed at the December
meeting, and Shirley will assist him
.
Becca said she’s no longer willing to
provide food on a monthly basis for the unit games. I moved, and Bob
seconded the motion, that we stop providing dinner at the unit
games. Other board members opposed, saying our attendance would drop
if we stopped feeding players. Jerry agreed to provide dinner in
February, Don in March, Ellie in April, Gee Gee in May, Becca in
June, Bob in July, I in August, Jerry in September, Shirley in
October, and Ellie in November. We will ask the McKechnies to do the
dinner in December.
DISTRICT REPORT
We must send $1.75 per player for GNT
qualifiers to the district secretary. Bernadine says she is not
interested in running a team game. Ellie will ask Leah McKechnie to
hold a team game sometime before the end of February. The February
12 unit game will be a team game.
The next meeting will be February 12 at
the Masonic Lodge.
Respectfully submitted,
Addie Greene, secretary
