ProfileAudrey GreenBy Patty Duggan (Published January 2007)
Audrey got her love for bridge early in her home in South Dakota. Her family played "lots of cards, mostly whist, which is similar to no-trump." Audrey grew up on a farm. She graduated from high school in a town (population 150) near the family farm. She attended classes for all twelve grades in the same building. After high school, Audrey became a dental assistant, went on to become a hygienist and finally a dental consultant. She spent a total of thirty-seven years in the dental profession. Along the way she married Bill; they had two lovely daughters, Cathy and Linda. Cathy is married and teaches school. Younger daughter Linda is an assistant buyer for a corporation. The Greens have two grandchildren. Granddaughter Shelly is graduating from Colorado University with a degree in architectural design this May, and grandson, Adam, is graduating soon from SOU with a degree in computer science. Husband Bill was Vice President and General Manager of Unisource Paper Company before his retirement. He enjoys woodworking in his fully-equipped workshop. He has made some unique bird houses and has even made some of the mini tables that hook on to the bridge tables. Both Bill and Audrey love to play golf, and they miss not being able to play year round, as they did at their former location, San Diego. Audrey keeps in shape by walking every day in her neighborhood or on her treadmill when the weather is bad. The Greens have traveled all over the world, but Audrey says they want to concentrate on seeing the United States for the next few years. When Audrey has time, she sews for herself and her family and makes craft items. She loves to read and is also learning how to knit. Bill doesn’t share Audrey’s passion for bridge. Audrey got hooked on duplicate when her church wanted to start a bridge group and needed "one more." She was recruited and fell in love with the game. After she joined the ACBL, attended her first tournament and won her first master point, she and her partner "were hysterical." Now Audrey has accumulated well over four hundred master points, and she became a life master about five years ago. Her goal is simply "to settle in and enjoy the game." Audrey praises the warm reception she has received at our clubs and the quality of play that she has found here. Thank YOU, Audrey! You have added to the enjoyment of our games. |
